APSRC Teaching & Learning Team Hits the Road in December

In December, the APSRC Teaching and Learning team traveled across Arkansas, visiting eight schools in the Delta, Central, Northeast, and Southern regions. These visits provided hands-on support for educators, with a focus on data analysis, instructional planning, and coaching to strengthen classroom practices and boost student achievement.

Justin Warner, APSRC Math Specialist, recently visited the Barton Public School District in east Arkansas.

“District leadership has invested significantly in coaching and instructional resources to strengthen teaching and learning,” shared Warner. “Current priorities include implementing Achievement Level Descriptors (ALDs) in instruction and assessment, effectively using their High-Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM), and promoting high-yield classroom strategies.”

Sherry Washington, APSRC Science Specialist, and Warner, have provided ongoing classroom observations, coaching, and curriculum support for Barton’s teaching teams. Their work includes assisting teachers with curriculum pacing guides, developing intervention plans for the lowest 25% of students, and enhancing instructional practices such as cold-calling and reciprocal teaching.

The APSRC Teaching and Learning Team offers a variety of support services including effective professional learning experiences, collaborative think sessions with administrators and teachers, coaching for all, and services to navigate state accountability policies.
