APSRC Hosts State-Required Training for Charter Board Members
On November 13, the Arkansas Public School Resource Center (APSRC) welcomed school board members and charter leaders for Charter Board Training. The live training event provided three hours of state-required instruction for Arkansas Public School Board Members, helping them meet the annual requirement of six hours by December 31.
The evening featured guest speaker and author Brian L. Carpenter, who shared insights on effective governance and leadership. Attendees also learned about an exciting milestone --APSRC has secured a $61 million federal Charter Schools Program (CSP) grant to expand access to high-quality charter schools across Arkansas.
The event began with a meal at 5:00 p.m., followed by presentations at 5:30 p.m. on the third floor of the Victory Building in Little Rock.
School Board Training with APSRC
APSRC is one of several state-approved providers of board training for all school districts, charter and traditional. Each organization documents and certifies the training their organization has provided, but not what has been completed by the other organizations. A.C.A. § 6-13-629 requires annual professional development for Arkansas school board members:
All school board members must acquire at least six (6) hours of training every calendar year.
Newly elected board members must achieve at least nine (9) hours of training by December 31 of the calendar year that follows the calendar year of their initial election that includes training on the following topics:
How to read and interpret an audit; and
School safety and student discipline.
