This session will explain the role of phonics in reading. We will learn multisensory strategies to teach students decoding and encoding skills that promote orthographic mapping - the process of storing words permanently. Explicit spelling instruction will be demonstrated with the six syllable types that follow regular spelling patterns as well as how to teach high-frequency words.
