Virtual and Augmented Reality for the Classroom
July 26, 2019 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Free
As a teacher, can you take your class on a diving expedition off the Great Barrier Reef in Australia? Can your students visit the International Space Station? How many students can say they held our Solar System in their hand today during Science class?
Virtual and augmented reality gives students the chance to experience what it would be like to be there in person. This session highlights various websites and applications that offer VR & AR experiences with easy to follow instructions. Discussions will be directed as to how to implement VR and AR experiences to different grade levels and subject areas.
Participants will:
- Develop a working knowledge as to how VR & AR experiences are created and what platforms or applications to use.
- Create and edit 360 images taken with a Ricoh Theta S camera
- Organize 360 tours
- Determine what 360 viewing device works best for their class
Special Instructions: Participants need access to a computer lab (hosted at an ESC) or bring a laptop (hosted at APSRC). Bring a Ricoh Theta S 360 camera, if available from your school and a handheld device (cell phone or iPad).
Audience: 5th-12th
PD Credits: 3 hours
