Summer PD: “The Problem with Word Problems and Customizing Eureka Lessons”
June 20, 2018 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
Free
AM Session: “How I see math word problems: If you have 4 pencils and I have 7 apples, how many pancakes will fit on the roof? Purple, because aliens don’t wear hats.” While that’s a funny meme making its rounds on social media, it is not so funny when students cannot successfully answer, or even approach, math word problems. In this session, teachers will learn why students struggle with word problems, and strategies for helping students become more successful in solving problems.
PM Session: Fluency, Concept Development, Exercises, Examples, Problem Sets, Debrief, Exit Ticket…how do I get it all in during one class period? In this workshop, you will learn how Eureka Math is built to be customized for your students. We will work through a lesson to give you experience in how to customize a lesson in order to achieve the lesson objectives while creating a more streamlined lesson that will fit into your class schedule.
Intended Audience: Math teachers
Presenter: Eric Waldorf
