Summer PD: “Making the Move from Word Walls to Sound Walls”
May 29 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pmFree
Participants will learn the importance of moving from a traditional word wall to a sound wall in elementary classrooms. The purpose of a sound wall is to help students match phonemes (sounds) to graphemes (letters). Beginning readers need to learn that letters represent the sounds we speak. Organizing words by sounds helps young students connect phonology and orthography. The presentation will include how to set up a sound wall based upon the articulation of speech sounds and how to utilize the phoneme/grapheme mini cards for lessons.
*Participants will receive their own set of mini cards.
