R.I.S.E. K-2 Day 3: Phonics
August 7, 2020 @ 8:30 am - 3:30 pm
Free
This session will explain the role of phonics in reading. We will learn multisensory strategies to teach students decoding and encoding skills that promote orthographic mapping – the process of storing words permanently. Explicit spelling instruction will be demonstrated with the six syllable types that follow regular spelling patterns as well as how to teach high-frequency words. For more complex spelling patterns, we will learn syllable division rules to set students up for the successful reading of multi-syllable words.
The session will be held at the APSRC office, Suite 315 in the Victory Building at 1401 W. Capitol Ave., Little Rock, AR 72201.
Parking is available in a garage located on 6th Street, which runs parallel to Capitol Avenue. The garage is connected to the Victory Building via a second-floor walkway. You will need $5 to cover all-day parking or $1 per hour for hourly parking. Metered parking also is available.
Presenters: Jeryca Einhorn and Sherry Williams
