3/18/2013 2013 APSRC Tech Institute
  Update: Due to some conflicts in schedules and the legislative session, we have decided to postpone the APSRC Tech Institute.  It will not be held on March 27th.  We have also been approached about the possibility of providing an expanded Tech Institute and are in the process of securing some national experts.  We look forward to offering this expanded list of speakers and breakout sessions.

1/18/2012 ABC Initiative Highlighted in Democrat Gazette
 APSRC's Achieving By Changing Initiative was highlighted in an article that ran on Sunday, January 15th in the Northwest edition of the Democrat Gazette.
6/5/2012 ACSIP Work Session - July 24, 25, or 26
  APSRC will host three one-day work sessions for District ACSIP Chairs/Federal Coordinators on July 24-26.  Sessions will be held in Suite 315 of the Victory Building and the cost is $25.00.

The deadline for registration is July 20.  Seating is limited to 30 participants each day and is only for District ACSIP Chairs and Federal Coordinators.

 Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire community of Newton, Connecticut as they deal with the tragedy of a school shooting in Sandy Hook Elementary School on the morning of December 14.

  Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Hector School District at this time.  Hector Elementary School suffered a fire on the evening of December 13.

 APSRC has learned who will serve on the House Education Committee in the upcoming legislative session.
1/2/2013 In Memory of Steve Bryles
  Former State Senator and APSRC Policy Board Member Steve Bryles passed away on Friday, December 28.  Bryles was known as an advocate for Arkansas students, particularly those in the Delta.  He will be missed.
7/25/2013 Joint Ed Meeting on Common Core, July 22-23
  The Joint Education Committee met on Monday, July 22 and Tuesday, July 23 to hear reports on the Common Core State Standards in Arkansas.  These were informational meetings held to inform the legislators about the Common Core, provide historical and background information about the CCSS in Arkansas, and allow them to hear from various stakeholders about the pros and cons of the standards.  As expected, many legislators have heard from their constituents about the Common Core.  There was no action taken during these hearings; the purpose was simply to provide information to the legislators about Common Core.

  APSRC continues it's Common Core: Learning from the Experts Series with Beth Cocuzza, a Math Education Consultant with David Coleman, Jason Zimba and Student Achievement Partners, LLC. This event will be held on Tuesday, May 1 at the Holiday Inn Airport in Little Rock from 10:00-3:00.  Registration information coming soon!
4/3/2013 SB 811 Spreadsheet
 SB 811 proposes to change the amount of NSLA funds that school districts will receive based on a new calculation and a smoothing model.  A spreadsheet has been released which lists the proposed new funding amounts.  Click here to view the spreadsheet.

 APSRC has learned who will serve on the Senate Education Committee in the upcoming legislative session.
7/3/2013 State Board of Education Appointment
 

Governor Beebe has appointed Diane Zook, former Head of Special Education in North Little Rock and wife of Randy Zook, to the State Board of Education.

 A resident of Melbourne, Diane replaces Jim Cooper in the First District.  Diane will participate in her first State Board meeting on Monday, July 8.

The Form 471 application filing window for Funding Year 2012 will open at noon on Monday, January 9, 2012 and will close at 11:59 pm EDT on Tuesday, March 20, 2012. The filing window will be open for 72 days.
